BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty hints at replacement for Owain Wyn Evans' job in sly dig

BBC Breakfast fans were forced to hide behind their hands as Naga Munchetty hinted that weatherman Owain Wyn Evans could easily be replaced.

Things turned awkward on Friday (April 1), as the pair discussed the recent blanket of snow that has fallen over the city of York during a segment on the recently refurbished Clifford’s Tower.

Naga began by admitting it is “very chilly”, as her co-host Charlie Stayt told viewers: “Cast your eyes over our cameras looking over the city of York this morning. By the look of it – Owain, you can give us your expertise here – I’m seeing snow because I saw it snowing there earlier, it seems to have eased off.

“But we have a little bit of sunshine peeping through the clouds at the same time? It’s strange weather.”

Owain quizzed Naga: “Naga, what was the temperature there? You just looked, didn’t you?”

Naga then replied: “It’s one, two degrees. And it’s going to be patchy sunlight coming through, it’s going to get up to about three or four degrees.”

Cheekily, Owain thanked her for doing his job for him, as Naga joked: “Job done!”

Thankfully Owain didn’t take offence to her cheeky statement, as he fired back: “Thanks! Love that weather forecast! Brilliant – there we go, Naga is always here for the weather forecast for York.”

He then explained: “But yeah, it was sunny spells and then snow and showers there, Charlie. And actually many of us are going to see that type of thing through today as well.”

However, it seems Owain won’t have to worry too much about his job, as BBC Breakfast fans up and down the country were pleased to see him back on the show.

Taking to Twitter, legions of loyal fans shared their admiration for the star, with one writing: “I like weatherman Owain, he always has lovely suits.”

Another added: “I really love Owain. He brightens up the day every time he delivers the weather forecast however horrible it may be. Beautifully dressed every time and always upbeat. A star.”

“If you look the word ‘dapper’ up in a dictionary, it should simply say Owain Wyn Evans!” someone else joked.

As a fourth fan begged: “Please can we have Owain permanently. Such a literal ray of sunshine whatever the weather!”

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
