BBC Breakfast star Naga Munchetty shared the news that Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was returning to the UK – after being held in Iran for 6 years.
The BBC broadcaster joined colleagues like Dan Walker when she took to Twitter to retweet the news of journalist Nazanin’s return.
It comes as Nazanin and Anoosheh Ashoori were flown from Iran to the UK on Wednesday (March 16).
Mum Nazanin was set to be reunited with her husband Richard and seven-year-old daughter Gabriella.
She was first held in Iran in 2016 and accused of plotting to overthrow Iran’s goverment, a claim she denied.
Reacting to the breaking news of the journalist’s return, Naga retweeted a tweet from her colleague Nick Eardley, one of the BBC’s political correspondents.
Nick’s tweet read: “BREAKING: UK Foreign Secretary confirms Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe released and heading back to UK.”
Another tweet Naga shared was from BBC star Laura Kuenssberg – who quote tweeted Foreign Secretary Liz Truss.
Truss had broken the news originally, and Laura simply wrote: “Finally – the confirmation”.
She also shared an emotional clip of BBC newsreader Joanna Gosling, who choked up whilst announcing the journalist’s return on BBC News.
It was a quote tweet from BBC presenter Lyce Doucet, who wrote the caption: “..when it is such good news…”
BBC Radio 5 Live star Naga spoke to Richard Ratcliffe’s sister-in-law Rebecca on Wednesday’s edition of her radio show.
Rebecca had told Naga: “When she’s on a plane that’s when we’ll dare to hope.”
She also revealed Nazanin’s daughter “keeps her cards close to her chest.”
Her husband Richard had been campaigning for his wife’s release – and even went on hunger strike last October.
Speaking about his wife’s return, he said: “It’s going to be the beginning of a new life.”
He added the first thing his wife wanted to do was: “sit down on the sofa, make a cup of tea, and just be in the living room together”.
The dad added that he was excited to “pottering around the neighbourhood and be[ing] normal again”.
The journalist had been placed under house arrest and was handed her UK passport back earlier this week.
Labour MP Tulip Siddiq revealed a photo of Mrs Ratcliffe on her flight home.
She wrote: “It’s been 6 long years – and I can’t believe I can FINALLY share this photo. Nazanin is now in the air flying away from 6 years of hell in Iran.
“My heart goes out to Gabriella and Richard, as her long journey back home to them gets closer by the minute.”
