Ex-Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole claims the professional dancers face an annual nightmare over the types of celebrities booked for the show.
During his time on the BBC series, he says there were stars who wanted to learn to dance, others who were forced into it by their pushy agents and some who signed up but didn’t actually want to do it all.
Talented Brendan was one of the main professional dancers on Strictly for 15 years.
He won the first glitterball with newsreader Natasha Kaplinksy.
And he coached the likes of Sophie Ellis-Bextor, inset, Kelly Brook, Lulu, Jo Wood and Charlotte Hawkins.
He left the show in 2018 but admits that during his time there, behind the scenes it became obvious which celebrities really wanted to learn to dance and which ones did not.
Brendan said: “To be honest, there were those who entered because they were really up for the challenge and wanted to dance, so were very good. Others were slightly more hard work, but great fun.
“Then there were those who had perhaps been pushed into the show by their agents and were initially a bit hesitant but were also great fun.
“And then there were other partners who were just not up for the whole thing. The latter takes a lot of time.”
Brendan was skating for survival on ITV’s Dancing On Ice semi-final on Sunday (March 13) up against Kimberly Wyatt, Kye Whyte, Regan Gascoigne and Connor Ball.
It comes after Brendan claimed the ITV show was “getting personal” amid claims of “tension”.
He told his Instagram followers earlier this week: “An exciting weekend ahead… A double elimination and things are getting personal!”
Brendan captured the curiosity of audiences on Sunday night, as he appeared to stumble on the ice while performing his first routine.
“I feel Brendan was too harshly penalised for his fall!” one fan argued on Twitter, while someone else added: “I know Brendan fell, but no way was he only the fourth best. He should have been second easily. He covered up the fall so well, that none of us on Twitter knew if it was one or not!”
And another fan echoed: “Did Brendan just fall over on that group skate? The camera panned away quickly though as though trying to disguise it.”
The grand final has been postponed until Sunday, March 27.
This is to make way for a live FA Cup quarter final match on Sunday, March 20.
