Coleen Nolan has paid tribute to her aunt Teresa, who passed away yesterday (Thursday, February 3) after battling incurable skin cancer.
Posting to The Nolans official Twitter account, a statement announced: “Yesterday, our Auntie Teresa peacefully passed away, after living with incurable skin cancer for many years.
“Teresa was the backbone of our family, the glue that held us together and the only person from our parents’ generation left.
“Rest In Peace, Auntie.”
The emotional tribute also included photographs of Teresa, including one of her holding a pet dog and others of her surrounded by loving family members.
Coleen went on to retweet the post to her own Twitter page, as did Anne, Linda, Maureen and Denise.
Many fans will know the family’s poignant history with cancer, with Linda diagnosed with incurable liver cancer after already battling breast cancer.
Her Twitter bio reads: “Living with cancer, not dying from it.”
Anne and Linda were diagnosed with cancer within four days of each other, with Anne labelling herself as a “survivor of breast cancer”, while Coleen considers herself to be “incredibly high risk” of it, and considered a double mastectomy last year to lower that risk.
Bernie Nolan, of course, sadly died of breast cancer in July 2013 at just 52 years old.
Speaking at the time, Bernie remained upbeat and defiant, insisting she was living with the disease rather than dying from it.
She said: “OK, it’s not curable. But the doctors have promised me the cancer is treatable, it’s containable.
“I’m on medication which is controlling it, and people have lived for 12 years on these drugs. Who knows what new treatments are around the corner?
“I refuse to sit around like I’ve got a death sentence hanging over my head. I’m going to fight this for ever. It can get stuffed.”
Fans of the famous family also paid their respects to the late Teresa on social media, as one penned: “Would like to send my thoughts and prayers to all of @The_Nolans for their family loss that happened yesterday.
“Auntie Teresa is now a beautiful angel who wraps her wings around you all as you all grieve.”
Another said: “I am so sorry to hear this sad news. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you. Sending much love and strength to you all at this time.”
“I’m sorry to hear about your loss. Sending love to you all,” someone else posted.
