Coronation Street's Toyah 'playing Imran' as fans twig Abi paternity twist

Coronation Street’s Toyah Battersby looks set to be involved in an espionage storyline, as fans reckon she could be playing her fiancé Imran Habeeb.

Toyah left fans baffled when she took Imran back so quickly after finding out he cheated on her with Abi Webster during Kelly Neelan’s court case – and even more so when she agreed to marry him soon after.

Toyah was furious when Imran suggested they fight for custody of baby Alfie together – accusing him of thinking of her as a “barren woman” desperate to have a child.

Their plans to adopt young Elsie went out the window when Toyah found out the truth, but now Toyah could finally have a chance at having a baby.

But now eagle-eyed fans suspect she could instead be playing her husband and waiting for the right chance to strike – and is really intending to help Abi win custody.

Taking to Facebook, one fan wrote: “First of all I thought Toyah was going to nick Alfie off Imran after they get custody, but now I’m thinking she will help Abi because she won’t be able to forgive Imran, so Toyah will foster Alfie and Abi will live with them, well hopefully anyway!”

Another added: “I hope so too. Toyah has a lot of hate in her right now and she knows Imran is being a [poo emoji]. In Toyah’s professional job it’s to help and support people, surely she’d be breaking all sorts of rules and her own morals if she didn’t help Abi.”

“Toyah will most probably end up being the godmother,” someone else said.

Could Imran lose Alfie after all?

As a fourth viewer said: “I like the sound of that. Seems a great idea to me.”

“Who knows what may happen in soapland? I’d love to see the baby with Abi though and him being the making of her as she was really good with Kev’s lad Jack,” another proposed.

However, others were more reluctant to accept the idea, as one proposed: “In this situation it would not be allowed – the dad could step up and has the right, but dad’s partner to foster in this battle zone no… not in the best interests of the child.”

Fans want to see Abi raise her son

The new storyline comes amid reports that Imran actor Charlie De Melo has quit his role, with a source telling The Sun in March: “Charlie’s loved his time on the soap but the time is right to try new things.

“He’s hugely talented and very ambitious and wants to see what else is out there.

“He will always cherish his time in Weatherfield but for now it’s goodbye.”

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV.
