Coronation Street’s Yasmeen is facing some difficulties in her love life as her past trauma has come back to haunt her.
Character Stu Carpenter seems to be taking a romantic interest in her after she let him stay with her, however Yasmeen is finding it hard to replicate the same feelings.
Last year Yasmeen was emotionally abused by her then-husband Geoff Metcalfe right up until his death when he fell off a roof.
Despite him no longer being around, it seems that her past memories of the ordeal are now impacting her future love life.
Boss Iain MacLeod told Metro: “We like the re-exploring of Yasmeen’s psyche after Geoff – it would be easy to move on and forget it happened. In reality, it’s such a colossal psychological bomb with lifelong after effects.
“It’s not a case of retreading old ground. With Stu, can she trust again – her approach to friendships is damaged but is it irrevocable? She lacks self esteem – this man really likes her, can she embrace a happy future of is she irretrievably damaged and it costs her a happy ending?”
Iain went on to explain that some of Stu’s behaviour will ‘subtly reflect’ some of the ways Geoff acted when he was with Yasmeen which will cause her some challenges.
He added: “It’s a complicated and unique love story. I will remain tight lipped about how it ends.”
Due to Stu being homeless, Yasmeen offered for him to stay with her for the time being after he was found staying at the barbers by Maria Connor.
He turned down the offer at first as he thought Yasmeen was trying to make herself feel better but he changed his mind when Kelly Neelan insisted.
However, it wasn’t smooth sailing at first as Stu joked about how Yasmeen better have a good vacuum cleaner or he wouldn’t be happy, which soon reminded her of how she was treated by Geoff.
Alya then explained to Stu about what Geoff put her gran through, and Yasmeen admitted that she isn’t ready to have a lodger at the moment.
