Corrie star Jack James Ryan opens up on secret cancer battle as he supports co-star

Coronation Street’s Jack James Ryan has opened up about his secret battle with testicular cancer.

The 24-year-old actor, who plays the role of Jacob Hay in the ITV soap, was diagnosed with the deadly disease back in 2017 but went on to make a full recovery while he was studying acting at drama school.

Since then, the soap star has shared his experience with his hidden health scare as he continues to support his Corrie co-star Victoria Ekanoye who recently revealed she has breast cancer.

Victoria was congratulating Jack on his second stint on the show when the star opened up about his own experience with the disease on social media.

As he thanked her for her support, he replied: “Thanks so much Victoria, I think you’re class.

“Been so inspired by you opening up about your cancer journey and I’m sending you all the love and positive vibes.

“Had my own run with it a few years back. You’ve got this. Big love! X.”

Unaware of his own personal battle with the disease, Victoria replied: “Thanks JJ [heart emoji] I won’t lie, it’s one hell of a slog, but my family and friends, all the messages of support … feels like I have my own little army.

“I had no idea you battled the big C … what a warrior. And now you’re smashing it on our beloved @itvcorrie. Much love and respect x.”

But this isn’t the first time Jack has opened up about his bout of cancer which happened while he was still at school.

The star last discussed his illness on the podcast Industry Minds and went on to write the play Me & My Left Ball which sold out back in 2019.

Meanwhile, Victoria announced she had given birth to her first back with her partner Jonny back in March 2021.

Then just eight months later the 36-year-old discovered she had breast cancer but is determined to beat the disease for her little one.

The new mum – who played the role of Angie Appleton from 2017 to 2019 – explained how she first noticed a lump at the top of her left breast while she was feeding her son Theo.

She feared at first that she may not be around to see her son grow old – but doctors now believe a double mastectomy will cure her seeing as they spotted it so early.
