Country musician Toby Keith, 60, has announced he’s been diagnosed with stomach cancer.
The country music star, whose hits include Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue, made the announcement in an Instagram post on Sunday (June 12).
The I Love This Bar singer is undergoing treatment and chemotherapy, which he assured fans is going well.
Keith gave a health update to his fans, who have been enjoying his performances on his latest tour following the release of his new album Peso in My Pocket.
Sharing the announcement on Instagram, the country star began: “Last fall I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I’ve spent the last six months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery.”
“So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax.”
He added: “I am looking forward to spending this time with my family.
“But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait.”
Supporters and fans, , including famous faces, were quick to send their good wishes to the musician.
US TV star Taylor Cusack penned: “Praying for you,” while actor Chris Thunder wrote: “Praying Massively For You️,” followed by a praying and black heart emoji.
One fan also wrote: “We love and miss you Toby! You take care of you first.”
“You are so loved. We know you can beat this. Sending you love and prayers,” said another.
Long before his diagnosis, Keith had been known as a passionate advocate for cancer-related charities.
The Toby Keith Foundation, established in 2006, provides support for children fighting cancer.
The As Good as I Once Was singer became a country music favourite back in the early 90s, but he got his big break when he released the single How Do You Like Me Now? in 1999.
On January 13, 2021, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts by US President Donald Trump.
