Dan Walker consoles Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall as she cries in emotional video

BBC Breakfast star Dan Walker consoled a crying Jade Thirwall in a Comic Relief throwback clip.

The BBC broadcaster climbed Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa, to raise money for Comic Relief with Little Mix star Jade and other famous faces including Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas.

The celebs took on the gruelling climb in 2019, but Dan decided to reflect on their ascent this week ahead of this year’s Comic Relief – which will take place on Friday 18 March.

Taking to Instagram, Dan shared an emotional clip which saw South Shields singer Jade tearful as she struggled with the experience, but Dan was there to lift her spirits.

The star-studded line-up of climbers, including Dan, suffered from altitude sickness during their stint.

In the clip, Jade said she couldn’t breathe, so Dan tried to help her to control her breathing.

Trying to console the singer, Dan knelt down and said: “Try and control your breathing,” before joking: “You’re making me talk with my mouth full now!”

The touching moment showed Walker giving Jade a reassuring hug and wiping away her tears.

He told her she’ll be okay before adding: “You are amazing, Jade.”

Recalling the trip after being sent the clip on Wednesday (March 16), Dan said he made some “wonderful friends” and had an “incredible experience”.

He wrote: “I got sent this video today in the build-up to @comicrelief.

“Our trip up Kilimanjaro back in 2019 was a truly incredible experience. We had a great laugh, raised an amazing amount of money, made some wonderful friends & ate a lot of biscuits.

“I hope everyone taking part this year has an equally memorable time.”

Jade’s fellow Little Mix star Leighanne Pinnock commented on the post, saying: “This” alongside a pair of love-hearts and two emotional emoji faces.

At the time, broadcaster Dan said he didn’t expect to make friends for life but did, and revealed Jade came to his rescue with some strawberry laces.

It looks like the pair were able to help each-other with sweet gestures during their respective times of need, and Jade even replied calling Dan her “big brother” in the comments.

Writing on Instagram, Dan said: “I don’t think any of us expected to make friends for life. I will never forget @jadethirlwall sharing some strawberry lace love when I was struck down by altitude sickness and I couldn’t have asked to spend time with a better bunch on the #returntokili.”
