Dan Walker jokingly told his co-host Sally Nugent to “stop it” as she appeared to be rather bored of his golf chat during Monday morning’s BBC Breakfast.
The 44 year old, who is known to have a passion for the sport, couldn’t help but display his excitement when sports journalist John Watson appeared on the red sofa.
But quickly realising that Sally wasn’t interested, the host said: “I love golf John but when we talk about golf on this programme you can hear the collective sigh from people.
“We’ll have a ten-minute golf chat later John,” he added.
Clearly uninterested, Sally sighed and said: “Anyway.”
But Dan wasn’t happy with her remark and giggled: “Stop it!”
Making sure things weren’t too awkward, Sally reassured her colleague that she was in fact joking.
“I’m joking,” Sally insisted, with Dan replying: “I know you’re joking.”
“I’m carrying on a tradition,” Sally chimed, making reference to her predecessor Louise Minchin.
Laughing, Dan said: “Thankfully Louise isn’t here to give the golf eyes. I can just see her glazing over.”
Moving the conversation forward, Dan quickly reminded viewers that weather forecaster Carol Kirkwood is a fan of golf.
But unfortunately, Carol wasn’t interested either and pretended not to hear what was being said.
“Carol loves golf,” Dan said confidently while introducing the weather presenter.
“Thankfully Carol is here. Yes, she really loves golf,” Sally said sarcastically as she appeared to roll her eyes.
Chiming in on the ongoing joke, Carol said: “Oh I’ve just woken up, did you say something?”
But thankfully, Dan did see the funny side to it all and told Sally and Carol that he would continue to talk to himself about the sport.
Seeing the scenes unfold, viewers at home also shared their take on Twitter.
One person wrote: “Groaning as sports nerds masquerading as news journalists chat about golf…..and football….and cricket….and rugby….and Olympics…..and Strictly….”
Another said: “Great and golf in the same sentence …”
While another person penned: “A shame Naga isn’t there to join in the golf chat.”
