EastEnders' Milly Zero 'quits BBC soap' as Dotty Cotton after three years

EastEnders will say goodbye to another one of its cast members as Milly Zero is reportedly set to exit the soap.

Milly has played Dotty Cotton for three years after joining the cast in 2019 and taking over from Molly Conlin who played the younger version of Dot’s granddaughter.

The 23-year-old actress will now be hanging up her role as the character as The Sun reports she is set to exit the soap – and has already filmed her departing scenes.

A source told the publication that she will be leaving Albert Square shortly after her on-screen grandmother Dot, played by the late June Brown, is put to rest in Walford.

But her exit doesn’t mean the end of her character, with the source adding: “But the door is being left open for her return. This is not a final goodbye for Dotty.”

She will be among the many cast members saying their goodbyes to Dot, with some fan-favourites even returning to the soap for the first time in years – including Lauren Branning actress Jacqueline Jossa.

The likes of Colin Russel, played by Lord Michael Cashman, and George ‘Lofty’ Holloway, played by Tom Watt, will also return to the funeral while giving an update on their lives.

Dot will be fondly remembered in the departing scenes.

Milly has recently shared with The Sun what fans can expect from Dot’s funeral, adding that it was an incredibly “emotional day”, adding that they cried “real tears” because of the beautiful tribute.

The actress added: “June was always a bit mischievous on set and would often change the words of the script but that was just her.”

June sadly died in April and her on-screen granddaughter Milly led tribute to the iconic soap actress.

She wrote at the time: “Rest in perfect peace ‘Grandma Dot’. I have never met anyone who cared about their craft so deeply.

“An artist, a national treasure, an icon & an inspiration to us all. You will always live on in the hearts of everybody you touched. There will never be anyone quite like June.”

Although the date of Dot’s on-screen funeral has not been confirmed, it is likely to air before the end of the year.

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One at 7.30pm
