EastEnders new Baker family stars lives – music career, Hollywood fame and drag queen

EastEnders favourite Mitch Baker (Roger Griffiths) is set to be reunited with his extended family who are soon to arrive in Albert Square.

The BBC recently revealed that Mitch’s estranged brother Avery Baker, played by musician and actor Omar Lye-Fook, MBE, will be pitching up in Walford with his sons Felix (Matthew Morrison) and Finlay (Ashley Byam)

To mark the occasion, Daily Star has delved into the lives of the actors from the singing sensation to a Hollywood star they are definitely a talented bunch.

Omar Lye-Fook, MBE is one of the three new cast members joining EastEnders as part of the Baker clan and will be playing Avery Baker.

The music artist may already be familiar to many, who’ve seen the 53-year-old rise to fame with his hit chart-topping songs.

One of Omar’s most well-known song was his debut single “There’s Nothing Like This” which reached number 14 in the UK Singles Chart on re-release back in 1991.

His other spectacular work include songs such as “Feeling You” and “Doobie Doobie Doo.”

Over the years, the musician has collaborated with a few of the music industry’s biggest names, performing with the likes of Lamont Dozier, David Frank, Leon Ware and Stevie Wonder, and even Stevie Wonder.

Omar and Stevie once sang ‘ Don’t You Worry ’bout A Thing’ together.

On taking on the role as Avery, Omar Lye-Fook, MBE said: “I’ve been watching EastEnders since I was at school so it’s such a surreal experience to now be part of the show.

“I’m having so much fun and it’s an honour to be working alongside this incredible cast.”

Ashley Byam will be taking on the role of Finley but it isn’t his first rodeo when it comes to acting.

Ashley has had a Hollywood career and worked alongside the likes of , Margot Robbie, Tom Hardy, Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz.

He has appeared in movies such as Kray Twins biopic Legend and was in The Legend of Tarzan.

He said: “I’m very excited to be joining the Square. Like many people I grew up with EastEnders; it was almost like an unspoken family tradition.

“My mum and I sat there together watching so many incredible and iconic storylines. So to now be joining this classic British TV drama is an honour, and I’m truly grateful.

“I can’t wait for everyone to meet Finlay and see what lies ahead for him.”

Matthew Morrison will be taking on the role of Felix, who is making history by being EastEnders first every drag character.

Matthew Morrison, who will play Felix, added: “It’s an honour to be a part of such a legendary show that I grew up watching. It hasn’t quite sunk in yet, and I don’t think it ever will.

“I’m having a ball getting to grips with Felix and cannot wait for you all to meet him!”

‘‘It’s a privilege to represent the LGBTQIA+ community and to showcase the creative art of drag to both viewers at home and the residents of Walford.

“It is also fitting this is happening just as Pride is marking its 50th anniversary this year.’’

Viewers of the BBC One soap will see the families debut on the soap in a new storyline next week.

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One at 7.30pm
