EastEnders' Scott Maslen says Jessie Wallace is in 'a good place' after arrest

EastEnders actor Scott Maslen has spoken up for his co-star Jessie Wallace after she was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

The actress, who plays Kat Slater in the BBC soap, was detained last month after the alleged incident outside a nightclub and was released without charge after receiving a conditional caution.

Scott told The Sun on Sunday it can be hard in their job and that Jessie could have been tired.

The actor – who is best known as Albert Square’s Jack Branning – was quoted as saying: “It’s hard in this job. You get caught out sometimes, it’s life.

“I love Jessie. There’s nothing wrong with her, she is perfectly fine. She’s a character, she works very hard, it’s long days, so when she goes out occasionally, maybe she’s tired.”

Scott said people in his field are under the spotlight so they have to be careful.

“She’s in a good place, we move on, she’s learned and we go forward,” he added.

After the incident, it was revealed that Jessie, 50, had been slapped with a warning by the BBC and that she was very regretful.

A BBC spokesman said at the time: “Senior bosses have spoken to Jessie Wallace about the incident and issued a clear warning that this kind of behaviour is unacceptable and Jessie has expressed her deep regret.”

Jessie, 50, was reportedly with her partner at the time and was subsequently arrested by police officers on suspicion of assaulting a police officer as well as drunk and disorderly conduct.

Hours later, she was cautioned at 2am on June 19, with Suffolk Police confirming to Daily Star that she had been released without charge.
