Emmerdale’s Marlon Dingle star pays emotional tribute as beloved cast member quits

Emmerdale’s Mark Charnock was emotional as he paid a poignant tribute to one departing cast member.

The actor, who plays Marlon Dingle in the ITV soap, is currently involved in a major storyline after Marlon suffered a stroke which left him hospital-bound.

Though fiancée Rhona has been rallying around him, there have been plenty of ups and downs, with her own mum warning her off Marlon to avoid care responsibilities.

And best pal Paddy has also been conspicuously absent after being so taken aback by Marlon’s physical condition, and has used various excuses to get out of hospital visits.

But there is one character who has remained steadfast throughout the entire process – Marlon’s nurse, Gail Hancock, who fans are desperate to see become a permanent character.

Liz played nurse Gail

Sadly, actress Elizabeth Boag has announced that it’s the end of her Emmerdale journey – at least for now – and departed the rolling pastures of the Dales.

And Mark was quick to pay tribute to his stalwart on-screen nurse.

Taking to Twitter, Elizabeth posted: “Bye Gail! Thank you @markcharnock, @ZoeHenry03, all the cast, crew and casting team @emmerdale. Loved every minute!”

Mark paid tribute to his co-star

Mark replied: “You were wonderful in the part, Liz! Just superb xx”.

Fans are desperate to see Elizabeth stay in the part, with one writing: “Make Liz a regular as Gail. Fantastic acting. The continuity of character and the attention to detail surpasses most TV and film.”

As someone else replied: “Isn’t the local doctors needing a nurse after theirs went to prison? Let’s have Gail as a regular!”

The actress announced the news on Twitter

Another added: “You need a job in the surgery, a nurse that comes across as real and normal!”

“You were like a breath of fresh air, I’m gutted you are gone… We need you back ASAP,” a fourth gushed.

Other than her Emmerdale role, Elizabeth has featured in everything from BBC medical drama Casualty to Silent Witness. She’s also appeared in Doctors and Bruised Sky.

And while it is unclear what she might do next, one thing is for sure – she’ll be a sorely missed part of the ITV Dales.

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7:30pm on ITV.
