Nicola Thorp has shared her “terrifying” three-year Instagram stalking ordeal on This Morning.
The former Coronation Street star, 33, appeared as a guest panellist on the latest episode of the ITV show.
Speaking with presenters Alison Hammond and Josie Gibson via video-link, Nicola shared her own story of being stalked for three years on Instagram.
Nicola said: “I’ve had an online stalker for three years and the police thankfully were able to identify him after a year of investigation.
“But because of the fact that this man was not verified online, it took them such a long time to find him – and obviously during that time I felt very very unsafe.
“If platforms like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter had a verification system, it would have been far easier for the police to identify who this man is.”
Looking stunned by Nicola’s tale, Josie replied: “That is terrifying. Absolutely terrifying, and to think that you’ve been stalked and that could not find him, oh wow.”
Nicola added: “They couldn’t but thankfully Instagram worked with the police to identity him.
“I can’t talk too much more about it because it’s an ongoing case but yeah, I was not allowed to see the identity of the man who has been stalking for me for three years – which I think is a bit of an oversight.”
Alison and Nicola’s fellow panellist Gyles Brandreth looked equally shocked by the tale.
“Oh my god,” Alison could be heard saying.
Nicola rose to fame after going public with her complaint against a major accountancy firm who fired the star for refusing to wear heels.
She later petitioned for a ban on dress codes that force women to wear high heels before joining Coronation Street in 2017.
The actress played social worker Nicola Rubinstein on the ITV soap who was the estranged daughter of serial killer Pat Phelan.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
