BBC star Martin Roberts has confessed he feels a “responsibility” to get supplies to war-torn Ukraine in a bid to help those in need.
The Homes Under The Hammer star is travelling 26 hours from the UK to get to the Poland/Ukraine border with urgent supplies to give support where he can.
The 58-year-old has been sharing updated on his trip on Instagram and told his followers that he managed to get “a few hours sleep” after deciding against driving all the way without a rest.
He managed to get all the way to the Netherlands on Saturday night before stopping in a hotel.
Speaking to the camera to provide an update for his followers, Martin said: “Managed a few hours sleep, it’s a really tough day today, it’s another 13 hours on the road. Probably the longest day of driving I’ve ever done.
“All the way now through Poland and a large portion of Germany. Lots of music on the stereo, lots of wine gums and probably lots of Redbull.”
Martin said he was just going to get on with it and said that the people in Ukraine are keeping him going.
He added: “There are people who are waiting – they don’t know they’re waiting yet – that are there and they don’t know we’re coming. But we are. With these really important supplies. I feel quite a responsibility, massive responsibility, so we’ll just get there.”
Martin said that he was on a “humanitarian mercy dash” to help those in Ukraine.
His last video was posted on Sunday morning and he’s yet to give fans an update on dropping the supplies off in Ukraine.
All in the lead-up to his trip Martin has been providing updates to his followers as he began bulk-buying products at Costco as he confirmed he had been inundated with support.
He was asked by a charity to support them in bringing things to the frontline and has been showing the clips of him loading up his van and gathering supplies over the weekend.
Martin’s decision to support the charity and send supplies to the Ukraine border comes after Russia forces invaded Ukraine last month, with many residents forced to flee their homes.
Martin has encouraged his followers to help in whatever way they can, whether it’s donations or supporting with supplies.
