I'm A Celeb fans praise Boy George and Jill Scott as they share coming out stories

I’m A Celeb fans have heaped praise on Boy George and Jill Scott as the pair shared stories about their experience coming out as gay.

As Boy George was sitting at the creek with Jill and Seann, he began speaking about being asked when he knew he was gay.

He said: “I find it’s more other people ask about it, I’m busy being myself. They often ask, ‘When did you know you were gay?’ It was kind of gradual I think. For me it was other kids calling me a girl… ‘You’re a girl’.”

He was later heard in the Bush Telegraph saying: “I have no problem with people asking me when did I know I was gay because I can’t answer it.

Viewers took to Twitter to reach, with many calling Jill a “gay icon.” “Aw I love Jill and this whole chat!” gushed one viewer. A second agreed: “Jill is my gay icon.” More chimed in, adding: “jill is such an inspiration to so many people.”

“It’s such a weird question. The difference is that when you’re a gay kid or Trans or whatever, no-one really prepares for your arrival.”

He added at the creek: that he worried about announcing the news in school as he worried he’d be “immediately unpopular in the playground,” but admitted that inside he absolutely thought it was totally normal and “this is what’s meant to be.”

Footballer Jill joined in the conversation adding that who you love shouldn’t define who you are.

Jill added: “I think when you get to the point where it’s like not a question… in my head it’s just simple, you find someone, you fall in love with them, if it’s a woman, a man, but I don’t think it defines you at all.”

Viewers took to Twitter to react, with many calling Jill a “gay icon”.

Listening in, Seann asked Jill about being gay in women’s football, and how that compared to coming out as a man in the men’s league.

Jill admitted that it is more difficult for men as they get “so much stick in the chants.”

“it’s just not a safe environment where they feel safe enough to kind of do that. And that’s so sad. But yeah in women’s football it’s just never an issue. Some have partners that are female, some are married to men, yeah…”

Speaking of his idols growing up, Boy George added: “I think, for me, Bowie was the beginning of me going, ‘Oh my god, I’m not alone.’ It didn’t matter whether he was gay, straight or bisexual, he was a massive role model.”
