Inside Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor's sweet marriage to Emmerdale hubby

Sally Dynevor has one of the most recognisable faces on the silver screen thanks to her legendary long-standing role on Coronation Street.

The 58-year-old has played the role of fan favourite Sally Metcalfe since 1986 and has been involved in her fair share of dramatic storylines in Weatherfield.

Loyal viewers know all there is to know about her character’s life on the Cobbles but the blonde bombshell prefers to keep her family life private and out of the media.

And it appears as though acting runs in the family as the loving mum and her script writer husband Tim have gone on watch her gorgeous children follow in their footsteps.

As the ITV star continues to thrive on this year’s series of Dancing on Ice, viewers have been desperate to get to know the soap star away from the show.

Now, the Daily Star has taken a look into the family life of the northern stars as she prepares to blow the judges away with her impressive skating skills.

Who is Sally Dynevor’s husband?

As one of the original cast members from when the show first aired back in 1960, Sally was able to keep her name the same as her character on the show – similar to her fictional on-screen husband on the show.

But outside of the show, Sally fell madly in love with her now husband Tim Dynevor and it didn’t take long before the couple’s relationship got serious.

The pair tied the knot back in 1996 and the pair have gone on to grow as actors and writers throughout their marriage.

But it’s not just the loving mum who has a successful career in soapland, as Tim went on to become a successful scriptwriter for rival ITV soap Emmerdale.

The doting dad even went on to win a BAFTA for his talented storywriting writing back in 2008.

The sweet couple celebrated their love for each other in front of their friends and family back in the mid-90s, but it’s fair to say their big day was far from a lavish, star-studded affair.

Reflecting on her special day, Sally described her special day as “really laid back and casual” after they said ‘I do’ in a church in Cheshire and held their reception at home between their garden and their living room.

Even though she confessed it was a “tight squeeze”, the TV favourite said it was a perfect day and wouldn’t change it for the world.

The happy couple have since celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary but decided against renewing their vows because they have successfully stuck to the loving promise during their long-term marriage.

Throughout their relationship, the pair have gone on to welcome three children and one of them has already gone on to follow in their family’s footsteps and become a global star.

Their eldest child is 26-year-old actress Phoebe Dynevor who catapulted to fame back in 2020 when she starred as the leading lady in Netflix’s hit period drama Bridgerton.

And it’s clear to see that she had inherited her mum’s acting skills through her portrayal of Daphne Bridgerton which wowed viewers all over the world, who are anxiously waiting for the second series to drop on the streaming service later this year.

Sally and Tim also share 24-year-old son Sam and their 18-year-old daughter Harriet who have yet to share what career path they hope to venture on.

Support during cancer treatment

Back in 2009, Sally was diagnosed with breast cancer while her TV character was battling the same deadly disease.

While she was filming the emotional scenes, Sally promptly made an appointment to the doctors after she spotted a small lump on her breast which she later learned was cancer.

She went on to take a break from the Cobbles to undergo the much-needed surgery and chemotherapy needed to tackle the disease and thankfully came through cancer free.

Throughout the testing time in their family’s lives, Sally always had Tim by her side to support her and she couldn’t help but praise him for being her rock.

Sally has since changed her name to Dynevor

When she reflected on the emotionally difficult moment in her life, Sally said she felt “very lucky” that she had him there by her side and helped her made the turbulent time a positive experience.

During her treatment the pair enjoyed some much-needed family time together “just relaxing and not worrying about anything” in the future.

Before she was diagnosed with breast cancer, Sally went by her maiden name of Whittaker for work, but after she recovered from the disease, she decided to change to her married surname Dynevor.
