Jennifer Ellison hints at huge Brookside comeback as show creator teases return

Soap legend Jennifer Ellison has dropped a huge hint at her return to TV and the limelight, as she says she would return to Brookside in a heartbeat.

Actress and model Jennifer rose to fame in Brookside, but although she couldn’t reveal the new TV show she is starring in, she has confirmed it isn’t the popular Channel 4 soap, despite rumours of its return circulating recently.

Speaking to Daily Star at the National Diversity Awards, the actress said: “I’ve just filmed a new TV show which is coming out this year. I can’t say what it is. It’s not Brookside no!”

Asked however what she thinks of Phil Redmond’s suggestion that the soap may come back at the film, Jennifer says she would return to her famous role in a heartbeat.

She said: “Literally Brookside changed my life.

“I went from here, a little dancer to like, having absolutely nothing to overnight living my dream.

“I would do Brookside again in a heartbeat. Only for the reason that it means so much to me. I could just never say no to it.”

The star also revealed that she and her fellow co-stars have remained close, adding: “I keep in touch with loads of people.

“Louis Emerick just posted yesterday that it has been 40 years of Brookside. We’re all messaging and we all stay in touch.”

This comes as show creator Phil Redmond has hinted the show will return to mark its 40th anniversary, saying on BBC Breakfast: “I’ve also got all the old Brookie crew and the Hollyoaks gang saying they would love to be in it so who knows, if we’re going to do Grange Hill this year, perhaps we’ll go to Brookie next and Hollyoaks the year after that – who knows?”

The actress took a few years away from the limelight to focus on raising her family and running her own dance school called Jelly Academy in Liverpool after leaving the soap when it finished in 2003.

Her students wowed the audience with their stunning performance during the National Diversity Awards, and like how Brookside changed her life, she is now changing lives in her home city too.

“With my performing arts school, there’s so many talented kids in Liverpool who have nothing,” said Jennifer.

“I’m literally changing people’s lives. Giving them a focus, giving them a drive and it’s the most rewarding thing when they achieve.”

After a few years away, Jennifer is now making her return to TV, saying: “I’ve got like two other tv shows in the pipeline.

“I took a decision to take a few years out because I was bringing up my family, setting up my school.

“Now I’ve just said this in the show I’ve just filmed – I’m ready to kind of like get back into it. My eldest is 12 now, so now I’m starting to get back into things.”
