Lorraine Kelly was left in floods of tears on Friday morning, as ITV bosses surprised her with a visit from an old friend.
During a segment on friendship to celebrate International Friendship Month – which runs throughout February – Lorraine was shown a series of throwback snaps and a video interview with her friend Joyce.
The pair had grown up together, attended each other’s weddings and supported each other through various life events – including the London Marathon.
After the video ended, Dr Amir Khan told Lorraine: “Well Lorraine, watching that I think we all want to be your best friend. But that isn’t the last of the surprise. We have got someone really special here for you.”
The doors on-set then opened, with Joyce stepping through them in person, as Lorraine screamed and said: “Shut up!”
Lorraine couldn’t believe what she was seeing as she broke down in floods of tears, glad to see her pal in the flesh – but unable to hug her due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.
“Oh, I’m not allowed to hug you am I? We’re not allowed!” Lorraine asked as she began to cry. “I can’t believe you kept this from me! How did you manage to keep that from me?”
Joyce cheekily replied: “Because I’m a cheeky monkey.”
“Does that mean we can go out?” Lorraine begged her pal, worried that she would be heading home straight after filming. But thankfully Joyce emotionally replied in the affirmative.
The pair had been relying on video calls to meet up in recent months, unable to see each other in person due to both work commitments and the pandemic.
Lorraine explained: “Joyce obviously lives in France and Spain – she’s a globe-trotter – and we do our calls on a Saturday… We’ve got to have a glass in our hand and a laugh.”
But the pair hadn’t been able to meet due to the ongoing restrictions.
It comes after Lorraine’s hilariously flirty exchange with Good Morning Britain host Ben Shephard, as they suggested a pyjama-clad pillow fight.
Ben kicked off the conversation by asking her: “Do you fancy a bit of a professional pillow fight, Lorraine?” as Kate Garraway corrected: “Ooh I imagine she’s an amateur one!”
Lorraine couldn’t help but reply: “Do I fancy a pillow fight – what, with you? Yeah!” as the discussion took on a definite flirty undertone.
Ben explained: “It’s a professional spot now. There’s a world championship.”
“Oh that would be great!” Lorraine replied, telling Ben: “Can you make that happen, please? All kinds of images are going through my head… all very good!
Kate interjected: “Me too! You’re both in your PJs, whacking each other!”
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
