Masked Singer UK fans 'work out' Mushroom’s real identity as Doctor Who actress

The Masked Singer fans believe they have ‘worked out’ mushroom’s true identity after their first performance.

During Saturday night’s opening night of the third series, viewers watched Mushroom go up against Robobunny as they battled it out on stage.

Prior to their performance, ITV producers teased fans of the popular talent competition with a short VT which dropped a series of subtle hints as to who the celebrity could be behind the mask.

In the clip, the performer had a noticeably northern accent but when the star started to sing it was obvious to hear that they now rocked an Irish accent.

It didn’t take long before fans were buzzing with theories online as many theorised it could be stand-up comic Aisling Bea who is set to star in the new series of Doctor Who.

Viewers soon swarmed to Twitter to share their thoughts as to who could be in the costume online.

One user guessed: “Mushroom …. could it be Jane Horrocks or Aisling Bea? That ‘RIOT’ was pure Aisling for me!”

Another agreed: “I am thinking Aisling Bea could be Mushroom #TheMaskedSingerUK.”

A third chimed in with: “Mushroom’s voice when they start to sing sounds like Aisling Bea.”

Elsewhere another asked: #TheMaskedSingerUK are we thinking aisling bea as mushroom or is it just me?”

Meanwhile another: “#TheMaskedSingerUK thinking that Mushroom could be either sibohan mcsweeney / aisling Bea – either would be amaxing,” followed by a heart eyes emoji.

But fans have been warned contestants have started to change their voices

It comes after Rita Ora confessed that after more than two years on air, contestants are now “adjusting their accents and their singing voices” to make the competition harder.

Ahead of the third series, she admitted: “I think this series is the hardest because people are catching onto what our strong points are.

“I always listen to the voice, Jonathan and Mo are so strong on the comedy side of things. Davina knows everyone!

“It’s hard for me now because they’re adjusting their accents and their singing voices which is what I always rely on.”
