Steven Irwin’s son Robert had a narrow escape when he tried to feed a 13ft crocodile.
The 18-year-old wildlife expert, from Australia, and his team had been featuring Casper, the saltwater croc, in Australia Zoo’s new show.
He had recently moved into a new enclosure and Robert was keen to see how he was settling in, so decided to jump into the enclosure himself.
But it almost went terribly wrong.
Sharing an excerpt of the final episode in his documentary “Crikey! It’s the Irwins” on his Instagram, he admitted it was one of the most intense crocodile feeds he has done.
“Casper is leucistic, he is completely pale so it makes him very hard to see under the water,” Robert explains while running to the front of the pond with two pieces of chunky meat in his hand.
“Casper has such a wild behaviour and since dad first got Casper, he’s had that instinct.”
As he waits for Casper to emerge from the water, Robert puts his foot down on the ground heavily to attract the animal’s attention.

“Since he was moved [to a new enclosure], I’ve got no idea how he was gonna react. That’s quite terrifying,” Robert says.
“Now we want to see a nice, big reaction out of him so that we know he is happy.”
Seconds later, Casper leaps from the water with his jaw opening wide.
He chases after Robert as he takes a few steps back along the side of the pond. Robert throws a large piece of meat at him to slow down the pace.

“Yeah he is keen,” Robert says while throwing another piece out. “Bail, bail, bail.”
He runs to the back of the enclosure and manages to escape unscathed.
Viewers’ hearts skipped a beat when they watched the apex predator closing in on Robert.
“He doesn’t seem interested in your dead food. He’s looking to order fresh meat!” one joked.
A second wrote: “That was intense! You look so much like your dad, keep it up.”
Robert’s father, Steven, was the famed “Crocodile Hunter” in Australia who did a huge amount of work to educate people on animal conservation.
He died after being pierced in the chest by a short-tail stingray while filming a documentary in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef in 2006.
