Phillip Schofield shuts down Matthew Wright as he urges King to 'sell Buckingham Palace'

Matthew Wright urged King Charles III to “sell Buckingham Palace” amid the controversial Clarence House sackings.

While appearing on This Morning on Wednesday, September 14, Matthew Wright appeared on the blue sofa to chat to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby about Queen Elizabeth II’s sad passing.

Speaking about the late Monarch and the new King, Matthew touched on the controversial redundancies that have been issued to staff at Clarence House.

Clearly angry about the redundancies, Matthew said that King Charles should have decided to sell Buckingham Palace in order to keep his home and staff at Clarence House.

“If you’d stayed in Clarence House, you could have perhaps sold Buckingham Palace,” Matthew unexpectedly said.

Host Phillip looked at Matthew and said: “Really?” while scrunching up is face in disgust.

Viewers at home were quick to pick up on Phillip’s sly snap back, with one writing: “Fair play to @Schofe for pulling up Matthew Wright about his comment about selling Buckingham Palace #ThisMorning”

Another person added: “While I agree it is sad that staff will be made redundant, however I don’t know what @Matthew_Wright is wanting – would giving them less notice be preferable? #thismorning.”

Other viewers “switched off” when they saw Matthew on the show.

“Switched on saw my mate Matthew Wright, switched off #ThisMorning,” penned one.

This comes after it was announced that the staff at Clarence House, the royal residence of the King when he was known as Prince, have been handed redundancy notices.

The Guardian reported that “dozens” of Clarence House staff were “given notice of their redundancy” as the King and Queen Consort plan to move into Buckingham Palace.

It is understood that up to 100 employees at the King’s former official residence were handed the notice days after the Queen’s passing.
