Ryan Thomas has admitted leaving Coronation Street was the “biggest gamble” he ever took in his life as he didn’t know what was going to happen.
The former Corrie star played Jason Grimshaw on the ITV soap from 2000 until 2016, when he decided to walk away from the cobbles.
Ryan explained it was a huge risk for him to take as he didn’t know what would happen to him next – but he joked it all worked out fine in the end as he got a stint on a very different show.

The soap star opened up about leaving Corrie when he appeared on Celebrity Antiques Road Trip alongside Pussycat Dolls star Kimberly Wyatt on Thursday (December 29).
Speaking about which antiques he’d like to hunt for, Ryan said in the car: “I’d like something that was a bit of a statement. Maybe a big piece. I’d like to take a gamble with something extravagant.”
Bargain Hunt presenter and auctioneer Natasha Ruskin Sharp replied: “An extravagant gamble, I like that.”
She then quizzed him about his acting career, asking him: “Would you say that’s what you took when you left acting school to go on Corrie?”
Ryan candidly replied: “No, that was just a way of getting out of school!”
He went on: “Leaving Corrie was probably the biggest gamble, because you never know what’s gonna happen after that.”
But Natasha joked he’d made the right decision to quit as he might not have ended up on Antiques Road Trip if he’d have stayed on the soap.

She cut in: “I’ll tell you what happened. You came on Antiques Road Trip and got some ducks!”, referring to the three old duck ornaments he bought earlier in the episode.
Ryan cried: “I did! I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t leave that show!”
Natasha joked: “That gamble paid right off,” prompting Ryan to agree: “I’m telling ya!”
