Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Karen Hauer is calling on show bosses to pair her with a woman on this year’s series.
The star, 39, wants to be the latest pro to compete in a same-sex couple.
Over the years she had danced with blokes including Will Young, Jeremy Vine and Simon Rimmer – but this time she wants something different.
She told Daily Star Sunday: “It would be great to dance with another female this year. I’d really love that.
“It’s a beautiful thing that the show is opening up to it now. It’s not taboo anymore. It’s a beautiful thing to be able to show same-sex dancing. It’s normal now and that’s the way it should be.”
Strictly had its first same-sex couple in 2020 when Katya Jones danced with boxer Nicola Adams.
And last year Johannes Radebe was paired with TV chef John Whaite.
Karen said: “It was done so beautifully both times.”
Being in a same-sex pairing would be a new challenge for her after a decade on the show.
It means coming up with fresh choreography after years of creating traditional routines designed for a man and a woman.
Karen is due to meet execs this spring to strike a big-money deal to return to the show for another series.
She said: “It will be my 11th year. Nothing is signed yet, but I am hoping to be back. When they ask me, it’s always an easy decision.”
Despite being one of the longest-serving pros on the show, Karen still loves every second of it.
She said: “It’s the best job ever. I still love it. I work with great people. We get to take beginners and teach them to dance and see them evolve.
“We love doing that. And the public loves it as well. That’s why the show has been around for such a long time. It’s feel-good and you can watch it with your family.”
