BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker shared a heartfelt tribute to Strictly Come Dancing’s Oti Mabuse after it was confirmed she will be leaving the show after a seven year run.
Dan took part in last year’s series of Strictly and placed 10th with his partner Nadiya Bychkova.
Oti Mabuse was partnered up with rugby player Ugo Monye and were the fourth couple to be eliminated from the dance competition.
The official Strictly Come Dancing Twitter account tweeted a picture of Oti Mabuse holding up the Glitterball Trophy with her two partners.
She won the competition two years in a row, in 2019 with Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher and in 2020 with comedian Bill Bailey.
“Oti has been a truly wonderful part of Strictly for the past seven years. Her energy, creativity and talent have contributed to so many of the show’s most memorable moments and she will be hugely missed, not only by viewers but the entire team.”
The post went on to say that she leaves a “dazzling legacy” as the “only professional dancer to win the Glitterball trophy in two consecutive years”, before saying that the BBC “couldn’t be prouder of Oti and what she has achieved.”
BBC signed off the message by saying that she “will always be at the very heart of the Strictly family” and that they wish her “every success in her already bright future.”
The caption for the post read: “Sadly, the brilliant Oti Mabuse is leaving the show after seven incredible series. Thank you Oti, you will always be a huge part of our Strictly family.”
Her co-star and BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker quote tweeted the touching tribute and left his own message.
“Absolutely lovely human and Strictly legend. Long may she reign,” he gushed.
31-year-old Oti is currently on the Dancing On Ice panel as a judge and made her debut in this year’s series.
Upon joining the crew, Mabuse said that as a professional dancer she has always had “so much respect for the ice-skating professionals” as they have “exceptional skills” that are “beautiful to watch”.
She revealed that she couldn’t wait to be on the judging panel beside Torvill and Dean and dancer Ashley Banjo.
