Strictly's Oti Mabuse has 'secret weapon' to success as she becomes presenter

Oti Mabuse is reportedly being mentored by Dermot O’Leary as she launches her own television presenting career.

The Strictly Come Dancing favourite, 31, is currently enjoying a new gig as a judge on the Dancing on Ice judging panel.

She will also host the forthcoming ITV dating and talent show Romeo and Duet, which sees contestants attempt to serenade a love match down from a balcony before meeting face-to-face.

Filming on the project has already begun, with Oti picking up hosting tips from her pal and presenting veteran, Dermot O’Leary.

A source told The Sun: “Oti and Dermot have struck up a great friendship.

“He’s always keen to help out aspiring presenters and has been given Oti some vital pointers. All of which have been greatly received.

“It’s given her the perfect boost ahead of her debut hosting gig.”

Oti has further featured as a judge on programmes such as The Masked Dancer and The Greatest Dancer but Romeo and Duet will be her first solo presenting gig.

The programme will see singletons head on a blind “duet date” and learn a song together before trying to outperform other love matches on the show.

Oti recently opened up about the horrific racist and fat-shaming abuse she has received online, adding that while it’s “horrible”, she’s determined to not let the messages get the best of her.

She told The Radio Times: “To get tweeted or receive a message in my inbox being racially abusive, or fat-shaming me, is horrible.

“But it’s written by a person who can’t even face themselves in the mirror.

“The hard stuff that I’ve been through, with the racism and discrimination, is proof that people still have a lot to learn.”

She added: “The more hate I receive, the more of a reason it is to carry on doing my job.

“I have to show young girls that anything is possible. I have to fight, and be strong.”
