One said: “I was just eating my breakfast and now all I can imagine is Alison’s pus filled toenail,” and added three vomiting emojis.

Another added: “If you have an ingrown toenail, try a podiatrist or a chiropodist. You don’t need your GP.”

A disgusted fan also tweeted: “Thank you to Alison for that image of her ingrown toenail,” and added a sick emoji.

Alison had reminisced on the “gone days of being able to pop into the doctors” and told Dermot about her toenail issues.

Dermot questioned her about the toenail

She said she has “put it off for over two weeks now” and admitted that she “doesn’t even want to bother with it”.

Dermot then questioned her as to whether she should “go and make an appointment with a chiropodist,” to which Alison responded that she’d had “stabbing” from the ingrown toenail.

She called Dermot’s question “very true” but said that “normally” her doctor “does all that”.

Her co-host then said that “his point” was that the NHS resources are stretched so thin that “people get to a point where they know what is wrong with them” so they “go and sort it out themselves”.

Some viewers weren’t best pleased about the morning’s topic of conversation

Alison then pointed out the state she had left her toe in and Dermot agreed with her, before she asked them to “look at what happened to Bob Marley”.

Reggae singer Bob Marley went to a doctor about a lesion on his foot, which was put down to a football injury.

However, upon a second inspection, the injury was biopsied and it was discovered that he had melanoma, which is skin cancer.
