Tom Parker died listening to 'perfect song' as he chose not to listen to The Wanted

Tom Parker has left the nation in mourning after he sadly lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday, March 30.

The 33-year-old singer from the chart-topping band The Wanted had tragically been diagnosed with an “inoperable” glioblastoma in October 2020.

While many would have assumed that Tom would have listened to one of his own hits as his suffering came to an end, instead he chose a song that friends agreed described him well.

Surrounded by family and his fellow The Wanted bandmates, Tom slipped away peacefully while listening to Oasis song Live Forever as he sadly succumbed to the horrific disease.

Speaking about the song choice, a close friend of the family told The Sun: “You might have thought Tom would opt for something by The Wanted but Oasis’ Live Forever sums him up perfectly – he was a rockstar and that’s how he wants to be remembered.

“It’s a real anthem to strength and defiance and some of the lyrics really speak to his struggle. Like the track says, Tom really will live forever in his children, his fans and his music.”

Tom fought a brave battle against brain cancer and back in November last year was even told by specialists that his tumour was “stable” following 30 rounds of radiotherapy sessions.

Doctors had estimated that Tom only had 12 to 18 months to live after discovering his stage four diagnosis.

Determined not to allow his cancer to get the better of him, Tom headed overseas for cutting edge treatment in a private hospital in Spain.

He later returned in a wheelchair when he performed on stage alongside his The Wanted bandmates in a handful of emotional performances.

Tom leaves behind his two young daughters and his wife Kelsey

Kelsey Parker, Tom’s wife, has explained that the hearts of his family are broken following her husband’s passing.

On Instagram, she penned: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we confirm Tom passed away peacefully earlier today with all of his family by his side.

“Our hearts are broken, Tom was the centre of our world and we can’t imagine life without his infectious smile and energetic presence.

“We are truly thankful for the outpouring of love and support and ask that we all unite to ensure Tom’s light continues to shine for his beautiful children.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported in his care throughout, he fought until the very end. I’m forever proud of you.”

He leaves behind his two children, Aurelia, two, and Bodhi, one, along with his wife Kelsey, 32.
