Ulrika Jonsson fears Gladiators will never be revived because of health and safety rules.
The star, who hosted the hit show in the 90s, thinks it would be seen as too violent for today’s climate.
She said: “People are so into fitness nowadays so it would be really interesting to have the show back on TV. I think it’s an awesome format.
“But having said that, God knows what health and safety would make of it. Massive bodybuilders with giant cotton buds beating the s*** out of each other… that might be awkward.”
Ulrika fronted the show for eight years between 1992 and 2000 and helped it become a ratings smash for ITV.
But she is convinced she wouldn’t get asked to front it again if it was ever back on TV.
She said: “I don’t know if an old bird like me would be chosen to be host.”
More than two decades after hosting the show, Ulrika still thinks of it as a career highlight.
She said: “It was an amazing show to be part of. It reached kids, parents and grandparents.
“It was a massive challenge. I genuinely loved it.”
