BBC Breakfast fans fume as they issue complaint before programme hauled off air

BBC Breakfast fans issued a major complaint before the programme was hauled off air on Sunday (August 20).

Ben Boulos and Luxmy Gopal teamed up for the latest instalment of the morning show, presenting the top news stories of the day with viewers across the country.

Unsurprisingly, the Women’s World Cup was extensively covered as England are gearing up to take on Spain in the final.

The presenters regularly handed over the sports correspondent Jane Dougal who was live from Australia, while the duo also spoke to Lucy Bronze’s family to discuss how they were feeling ahead of the huge game.

But the heavy coverage didn’t sit well with several viewers who headed to social media to slam the show for having a slow news day.

One viewer fumed: “BBC Breakfast – is there nothing NEWS worthy other than football today? Or is BBC Breakfast changing its name to MOTD?” (sic)

“@BBCBreakfast Men or Women’s Footie! Local, National or International, I don’t like footie,” added a second.

Another seething fan shared: “Oh f**k off with all this lioness s**t, and comparing them to the men’s 66 squad, all this woke c**p is getting out of hand now, even Prince William can’t be a***d with it #BBCBreakfast.” (sic)

A fourth chimed in: “Ffs can we not have some proper fkn news instead of the lioness shite #bbcbreakfast”.

Someone else questioned: “No news this morning? #BBCBreakfast”.

After the slew of complaints, BBC Breakfast was pulled off the channel at 7:25am, more than an hour and a half earlier than its usual finishing time.

While the show was removed to make way for a repeat of last night’s Match of the Day, Luxmy confirmed it wasn’t ending all together.

She explained that BBC Breakfast was being moved to BBC News where it continued until 9:00am.
