Ben Shephard ‘likely’ to join This Morning after ‘great chemistry’ with Holly Willoughby

Ben Shephard is “very likely” to join This Morning as a permanent host after “great chemistry” with Holly Willoughby.

The 46-year-old star, who presents Tipping Point and Good Morning Britain, stepped in to present the ITV daytime show last month and fans have since called for him to join the programme full-time. He was previously a stand-in presenter on This Morning, covering for Phillip Schofield between 2005 and 2011.

Ben currently rotates with Richard Madeley, Ed Balls and Martin Lewis to host GMB alongside either Susanna Reid or Kate Garraway. He stepped in more frequently when Piers Morgan first quit in 2021 and was the main presenter of GMB when it launched in 2014.

Bard AI told Daily Star: “It is very likely that Ben will become the permanent This Morning host with Holly. He has been filling in for various presenters on the show for many years, and he has always been popular with viewers. When he recently returned to the sofa alongside Holly, viewers were quick to praise his natural presenting style and chemistry with her.

“In addition, Ben is a well-respected and experienced presenter. He has hosted a variety of successful shows for ITV, including Good Morning Britain, Tipping Point, and Ninja Warrior UK. He is also a former professional rugby player, which gives him a unique perspective and makes him a popular guest on sports shows.

“ITV bosses have reportedly been impressed with Ben Shephard’s performance on This Morning, and they are considering making him the permanent co-host alongside Holly. This would be a popular decision with viewers, and it would make sense from a business perspective. Ben is a popular and experienced presenter who has a great chemistry with Holly.”

Since Phillip left This Morning in May this year, Holly has hosted the daytime TV show alongside a rotating roster of ITV stars including Josie Gibson, Alison Hammond, Dermot O’Leary and Craig Doyle. Fans have since called for Ben to become a regular presenter on the ITV daytime show.

One fan wrote: “Ben’s a natural for this show – class act. They should ditch Holly and permanently pair him up with someone else. Another posted: “Ben should be permanent with Holly. They’ve worked together loads. He can laugh at the right moment. He’s not loud. He’s respectful.. he’s professional.”

Holly has previously admitted she’d like to have a permanent co-host. Speaking at the National Television Awards last month, she said: “Obviously a permanent one [host], that would be ideal. That’s the question, everyone keeps asking me and I guess I ask myself and the truth of it is, is that it’s not really down to me.

“It’s a bit like the NTA thing really, it’s a viewer vote – we listen to what people say and think and the decision will be on who people like, rather than what I have to say. People think I have a lot to say and a lot of say in it.”

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 10am
