Carol Vorderman boasts she has 'boozy room' in famous university named after her

TV star Carol Vorderman boasted about the new room at Cambridge University that had been named after her.

The 62-year-old attended Cambridge to study engineering before appearing on the Channel 4 gameshow from 1982 until 2008. She went on to host the Pride of Britain Awards and Loose Women, earning herself an MBE for her work in TV.

Carol returned to her old school for pay her respects to an old tutor who she says was a “special human” “encouraged girls to attend university.”

She explained: “He was instrumental in bringing in comprehensive children (I was a free school meals kid) & opening the system to women. A very special human.”

She then showed her fans the buttery room with her name on it. A buttery room is where a large cellar room where food and drink, mainly wines, are stored for the guests.

Carol took a selfie with the new plaque which read ‘The Carol Vorderman Buttery’ above the archway into the room. She added the caption: “A special room (where the wine is sold) named after you know who!! In a Cambridge College,”

“Very proud,” she added before she showed fans a snippet of the college which she “loved,” stating it was an “honour to be a part of it.”

Carol then panned the camera to an area of the green courtyard where politician Oliver Cromwell used to sleep, giving her 314k followers a history lesson as she boasted about how “beautiful” her college was.

Posting to her Instagram, Carol shared how “proud” she was of the special moment and to be a part of Cambridge Alumni.

She wrote: “I never thought that I would have a college room named after me either. The Carol Vorderman Buttery is where the wine is handled and from where it’s sold to students. It’s next to the main dining hall built in 1596.

“Our college was founded by Lady Frances Sidney of Sussex. So by a woman who wanted to help the bright young men at the time from poorer backgrounds further their education to change society. 

“Her purpose continues,” she concluded.
