Comedy fans are in for a treat at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe, with a whole roster of comedians set to take to the stages by storm.
There’s always plenty on offer at the annual event, but festival-goers this year will get the chance to watch the likes of a beatboxing duo, a dance cabaret act and even a penis puppet.
Edinburgh Fringe, the world’s largest performance arts festival, will take place from August 4 to 28 and there is plenty of variety.
As well as comedy, there are more family friendly acts, music, theatre and spoken word performances.
But if comedy is your thing, we’ve rounded up the ones to watch this year.
Joe McTernan
Edinburgh-based comedian Joe McTernan has a huge presence online, with 170,000 followers and more than 30million views.
He produces character-based sketches, and will showcase his debut show Life Advice That Won’t Change Your Life at the festival.
Joe’s style sees him share his annoyance with so-called inspirational content online, with him poking fun at the motivational madness.
He will be performing at Underbelly, Buttercup stage.
Cam Gavinski
Thai-American comedian Cam Gavinski is also big on social media, known for his viral TikTok sketches.
Cam will be making his Edinburgh Fringe debut with his solo show BONHEUR.
He says of his show: “It’s a post-modern woke tongue-in-cheek deconstruction of toxic-masculinity, also there’s a penis puppet.”
Cam has garnered more than 20m views on social media, and has even starred in Euphoria and Netflix series Boo, Bitch.
He will be performing at the Gilded Balloon Teviot.
Myq Kaplan
Myq Kaplan has had appearances on huge shows including The Late Show with David Letterman, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, and his own comedy specials on various outlets.
The US legend is one of the big names at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe.
He will be performing his show, Imperfect, at The Dairy Room, Underbelly.
John Hastings
John Hastings is back again, this time with his show The Times They Are A John Hastings.
He’s won a number of awards, including JFL Homegrown Award and Coca Comedian of the Year, and has been nominated for many others, like the Canadian Comedy Awards.
The Canadian funny-man has been described as one of the “hardest-working” comedians, and will be taking aim at Covid, auditions, kinky sex, psychedelics and even owning a cat when he performs at The Monkey Barrel.
The Mighty Kids Beatbox
Beatboxing comedy duo The Mighty Kids Beatbox are set to bring fun for all the family with their show, The Mighty Kids Beatbox Strikes Back.
They’ve enjoyed sell-out success the past few years with shows at The Imagine Children’s Festival at London’s Southbank Centre, and were nominated for Best Kids Show at Leicester Square Comedy Festival this year.
Audiences can enjoy their world-class beatboxing and banter at the Assembly Rooms, Piccolo Tent.
Ian Stone
Comedy legend Ian Stone will be performing his show Ian Stone Will Make It Better.
He’s been nominated for a number of awards, and won the Comedians Comedian accolage back in 2017.
Ian has performed all over the world, and is travelling the country in July to preview his show, before an almost month-long stint at Edinburgh Fringe.
He will be performing at the Counting House at Free Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Elliot Minogue-Stone
Elliot Minogue-Stone is following in his dad Ian Stone’s footsteps, bringing a comedic dance cabaret show to Edinburgh Fringe.
He will be performing his new show Groovicle, with audiences set to watch Elliot’s search for self-discovery, what people like and how we co-exist.
The show is described as a 21st-century contemporary dance cabaret, and will be performed at ZOO Southside – Studio.
