Coronation Street fans were quick to swoon over a new cast member who arrived on the cobbles and made his first on-screen debut.
During Monday night’s episode of the beloved ITV1 soap opera, which aired on April 10, fans were a little distracted when a new face appeared on their TV sets.
Viewers watched on as Roy Cropper’s friend Melvyn and his dog Freddie called round to the café looking for the much-loved Corrie resident.

Setting off to visit a local bat roost, Roy returned early to the café clutching Freddie and explained to Shona and Nina how Melvyn had a funny turn.
Roy explained that his pal Melvyn – the own of Freddie – ended up in hospital and there was nobody to look after the dog.
Fans were completely in love with the new member as many flocked to Twitter to swoon.
Taking to the platform under the show’s hashtag to share a snap of Roy’s new furry friend, one person penned: “Adorable!!”
“Freddie the dog is so cute,” added a second.
“Freddie the dog is adorable,” penned a third, while a fourth wrote: “Cute little dog.”
A fifth person then added: “Freddie the dog is too adorable.”
While a sixth person joked: “Here, doggie, doggie. Keep away from Roy’s Eccles cake,” after the incident Roy was involved in with Evelyn’s dog that resulted in Cerberus dying.
And a seventh added: “Corrie dog near Roy the dog killer,” referring to the same dog incident.
Later on in the episode, Roy went to see Evelyn with Freddie in his arms to ask her for advice on caring for the cute and fluffy pup.
Evelyn clearly wanted to help Roy, but was still grieving for Cerberus so branded him a “chipmunk” and refused to help her friend.
It was then revealed that Roy’s friend Melvyn had passed away following a heart attack, with Freddie the dog still in Roy’s care.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm.
