EastEnders boss confirms return of beloved characters months after Cindy Beale twist

EastEnders bosses have convinced some former stars to reprise their roles on the BBC soap.

They’re set to air a string of comebacks and ex stars will be back in Albert Square within months. Executive producer Chris Clenshaw said: “There will be some characters returning in the not too distant future. They will be announced soon. Watch this space.”

The moves comes after the return of Cindy Beale, played by Michelle Collins, was a big success. Her return in June sparked a frenzy on social media and boosted viewing figures.

The soap will also get some new blood arriving to mix things up. Chris added: “We have got some new characters coming that are arriving soon.”

EastEnders has had a lot of support from viewers in recent months. Public votes helped it win three gongs at the National Television Awards and six gongs at the Inside Soap Awards.

Chris said: “Don’t underestimate the soap audience. What we do is for our audience. We have a really loyal fanbase. If you can strike the right chord with storylines, they will get behind it.”

Fans will be thrilled to hear that some of their old favourites will be coming back to Albert Square, particularly after getting a sneak-peek already. So far, two ex favourites have made brief appearances on the show, including Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) and Fatboy (Ricky Norwood).

Lauren’s return was very brief as part of the storyline which would ultimately see Cindy, Ian and Peter Beale return to Albert Square. However, Fatboy’s return rang alarm bells.

Fans had already speculated that he could be alive after Dot’s funeral, when a card was sent to her home which read: “Mrs B, forever in my heart, Arthur x.” And after he was seen speaking to Cindy’s witness protection officer in a flashback episode, fans thought he might have also gone into witness protection.

Elsewhere, fans have hoped for the return of Shirley Carter, along with her son Dean, who has been at the centre of two strong theories in recent weeks. One suggests that Dean is the secret boyfriend of Gina, while another also suggests that Dean could be the Christmas Day victim as Linda gets her revenge.

Although EastEnders are yet to confirm exactly who will be coming back, it sounds like it will be more than one familiar face.
