Daily Star has taken a look at some predictions on what could happen in the Chester village in 2024 as fans predict a huge parental twist and a shock recast for one popular character.
Goldie’s exit
In November this year, Chelsee Healey confirmed that she’s finished filming as she started her maternity leave. She took to social media to post a picture of herself holding a box of flowers and confirmed it was her last day on set before welcoming her second child.
Hollyoaks reposted the Goldie McQueen actress’ post and said they will will “miss her”. According to reports, Goldie’s temporary exit will air in January. Fans will have to wait and see exactly how Goldie leaves the village.
Coming out plot
The role of Lucas Hay was recast in 2023 with an older actor in order to pave the way for more mature storylines. Former executive producer Lucy Allan said at the time that Lucas will now be facing teenage discoveries, including consideration of his sexuality.
She told Inside Soap: “William Hall did a brilliant job for us, but we needed to cast someone slightly older for where the story was going. We’re bringing in Oscar Curtis as Lucas is getting to the age where he is difficult to manage, and he’s grappling with his sexuality.”
Theresa and Romeo reunion
Some Hollyoaks fans are convinced Romeo Nightingale (Owen Warner) may reunite with ex-lover Theresa McQueen when she returns to the village. Actress Jorgie Porter has taken some time off from the Channel 4 soap to welcome her first child and returned to filming in November this year.
The star exited the soap in December 2022 to go on maternity leave, but has now made a return to the set as she begins filming for her new scenes. “So it’s been a while… You missed me? #hollyoaks #mcqueens,” wrote Jorgie on Instagram, accompanying a mirror selfie she took on the set.
Nancy and Hannah showdown
Jessica Fox has returned to filming as Nancy Osbourne after her maternity leave following the birth of her first child earlier this year. Her return storyline is yet to be revealed but it will no doubt see her clash with Hannah Ashworth (Emma Rigby) who is coming back to the village.
Fans will remember that Hannah was once married to Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson) who is currently in a relationship with wife Nancy. Fans will have to wait and see how the two women will get on after coming face-to-face.
Rita Simon’s debut
It was confirmed in the summer that EastEnders legend Rita Simons is joining the cast of Hollyoaks but it is yet to be revealed who she will be playing. Some fans think the soap icon will play Mandy Richardson after the original actress Sarah Jayne Dunn was axed for refusing to stop posting on her OnlyFans account.
Taking to X, formally known as Twitter, to share her news, Rita told fans: “Well! The news is out! So excited to be joining the fabulous cast of @Hollyoaks later this year! Can’t tell you who I’m playing but I can tell you she’s gonna be trouble! Massive shout to my gorgeous agents @MelanieBlakeUK @NGMManagement @ABA_Agent #MyGirls.”

It has been confirmed that Jeremy Sheffield is reprising his role as villain Patrick Blake in upcoming scenes and fans have been guessing that he could be the father of Dilly Harcourt (Emma Johnsey-Smith), who has been plotting revenge against his daughter Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) ever since she stepped foot in the village. One fan penned: “So apparently Patrick Blake will make an appearance in Hollyoaks I definitely think it’ll be in a flashback and show us he’s related to Dilly in some way why else is she so hell bent on getting revenge on Sienna. Patrick connected to Dilly, her father, flashbacks? #Hollyoaks @hollyoaks”
