Jonah Hill has come out looking completely unrecognisable in recent years after undergoing an epic weight loss transformation.
The Superbad actor, 40, went from being “too scared to take his shirt off” to parading his lean figure in tiny shorts, drawing comparisons to Tom Hanks’ character in the film Castaway. In dramatic pictures taken earlier this year, Jonah was seen covered in tattoos, wearing a grey t-shirt with a pair of thigh-skimming green shorts.
He sported greying curls atop his head and a huge brunette beard that trailed all the way to his shoulders, with a pair of sunglasses tucked into his collar and a simple pair of striped slides on his feet, leaving his thin legs bare. In another snap, he showed off his bulging biceps in a blue tank top and shorts while heading out for a smoothie.

It is unclear whether he began to drop the pounds for a movie role or just for himself, but Jonah has opened up in the past about gaining and losing weight for Hollywood movies. The star dropped weight for 21 Jump Street and the Oscar-nominated Moneyball, but gained 40lbs for War Dogs.
Jonah has admitted that growing up in the spotlight left him feeling vulnerable, admitting to Ellen DeGeneres in 2018: “For me, it’s definitely being like this 14-year-old kid, being overweight, wanting to fit in with these skaters and hip-hop kids, and just feeling lonely and maybe not understanding my own worth.”
He added: “I spent most of my young adult life listening to people say I was fat, gross, and unattractive. And it’s only in the last four years writing and directing my movie, Mid90s, that I’ve started to understand how much that hurt and got into my head.”
The star confessed that when he was filming Superbad, his habits were “immature” and “idiotic”, explaining: “All my friends were in college so I was living like a frat guy like everyone drinking beer and eating pizza.”
After that, Jonah bucked his ideas up and headed to see a nutritionist. He explained: “I wish there was some crazy thing that I did, like a pill or a genie or something, but I went to see a nutritionist, and he told me what to eat to change my habits and stuff.”
He went from doing 10 push-ups a day to 100 push-ups a day, and even asked his co-star Channing Tatum for weight loss advice. Jonah explained on The Tonight Show in 2016: “I wanted to get in better shape, so I called Channing Tatum and said, ‘Hey, if I ate less and go to a trainer, will I get in better shape?’
“He said, ‘Yes, you dumb motherf***er, of course you will.’ It’s the simplest thing in the entire world.” Since then, Jonah has been spotted hitting the gym, including shadow boxing with a personal trainer in New York City.
But apart from that, Jonah has kept quiet about his workout regime, and prefers to keep his weight loss to himself. He admitted he still drinks beer, which means he “gets a little bigger”, but gets “really thin” when he stops.
When quizzed by one reporter whether he’s “still considered the fat guy” in Hollywood, Jonah refused to answer. The journalist said: “I run into that a whole lot. I’m the fat one. So are you the fat guy in Hollywood still or does everyone like look at you and they’re like ‘oh this is great, now you’re healthy’?”
Hill instead fumed: “Do you have any other questions? That are smart?” and went on to post about his body on social media in 2021, writing: “I know you mean well, but I kindly ask that you not comment on my body. Good or bad, I want you to politely let you know it’s not helpful and doesn’t feel good. Much respect.”

He has, however, admitted that his “childhood insecurities” were “exacerbated by years of public mockery”. He wrote back in 2021: “I’m 37 and finally love and accept myself. I don’t think I ever took my shirt off in a pool until I was in my mid-30s, even in front of family and friends.
“This isn’t a ‘good for me’ post. And it’s definitely not a ‘feel bad for me post’. It’s for the kids who don’t take their shirt off at the pool. Have fun. You’re wonderful and awesome and perfect. All my love.”
