ITV have broken their silence after Phillip Schofield admitted to having an affair with a young colleague who also worked for the broadcaster.
A spokesperson for ITV admitted they were “deeply disappointed” by his “deceit” and accepted his resignation with immediate effect.
The statement said: “We are deeply disappointed by the admissions of deceit made tonight by Phillip Schofield. Philip made assurances to us which he now acknowledges were untrue and we feel badly let down.”

“We accept his resignation from ITV and therefore can confirm that he will not be appearing on ITV as had previously been stated.”
In a statement released to Daily Mail on Friday (May 26), the former This Morning presenter admitted to having a “consensual on-off relationship” with a runner at ITV, who was a teenager when they first met.
The affair, which Phil described as “unwise but not illegal”, took place during his marriage to 59-year-old Stephanie Lowe, who is mother to their two daughters.
The ex-Dancing on Ice host claimed their relationship started out as a friendship but developed into something more when they started working together.
He has covered up the fling with the unknown male for years and lied about it to his wife, friends, colleagues, ITV, and agents.
Phil claimed he had “not been truthful” about it in the past because he wanted to “protect” his ex-colleague and former lover.
The broadcaster also confirmed that he had parted ways with ITV and would no longer be hosting the British Soap Awards on June 3.
After news of the affair broke, Phil was dropped by his agents at YMU Group as he went against their core values of “honesty and integrity.”
Mary Bekhait, the Group CEO of YMU Group, said: “Honesty and integrity are core values for YMU’s whole business, defining everything we do.
“Talent management is a relationship based entirely on trust. “This week, we have learned important new information about our client Phillip Schofield.
The statement continued: “These facts contradicted what Phillip had previously told YMU, as well as the external advisors we had brought in to support him.
“As a result, on Thursday we agreed to part company with Phillip, with immediate effect.”
