Love Island’s Tanya Manhenga slams telly bosses who ‘made her the villain’ on ITV2 show

Love Island’s Tanya Manhenga warns future contestants to “be themselves” after she was “edited pretty badly” on the ITV2 dating show.

During her time on the reality dating show, the student quickly fell in love with Shaq Muhammad in the South African villa.

Despite hitting it off early doors, the loved-up couple faced their fair share of backlash throughout their time on the dating programme from fans online.

Now, three months after the ITV show, the pair are stronger than ever as they showed off their unbreakable relationship at Pride of Manchester last week (May 10).

In an exclusive interview with Daily Star, the TV star and her boyfriend Shaq has opened up about how she was poorly edited while she was finding love in South Africa.

The former airport security officer confessed: “I’ve watched more than she’s watched and based on the things that I know and how it was perceived, Tanya’s not like that. She’s not this big bad villain that everyone thinks she is.

“She’s honestly the nicest, kindest girl that I’ve ever met and I wouldn’t be with her if that wasn’t the case.”

Tanya added: “Everyone in the villa knows cause you can tell the difference between villa votes and outside notes.

“We never got picked because we were actually decent and they could tell how I am because they know how I am.

“But then obviously on screen it was a completely different thing, so yeah I do think we got edited pretty bad because that’s not me.”

When asked what advice they would give to future contestants applying for the summer series later this year, the pair insisted Islanders need to ”be themselves” on the show.

Shaq started: “I would wish them the best of luck and say just be yourself. It’s honestly the best way to be because if you’re not, people will start to work out that you’re not being yourself very, very quickly.

“And that’s not just the public but the people you’re living with,” he added.

Tanya went on: “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing and you don’t know how you’ll be edited so you might as well be yourself because if you’re trying to be mad then you’ll look even worse.

“Whereas if you just be yourself then everyone will see your true personality when you get out,” she finished.
