Married at First Sight UK fans are demanding Channel 4 bosses made a huge change to the show’s format. The new show kicked off this month with dozens more singletons all walking down the aisle with a total stranger in their quest for true love.
But as the latest batch of couples introduce themselves to fans at home, many spotted an “infuriating” theme – with almost all the contestants spending several minutes talking about a sob story.
25-year-old Tasha, a Childcare Assistant from Leeds, was heard talking about how her parents “split up when I was 12,” and that she grew up in a house where no one ever hugged or sad “I love you.”

She went on to say she “always needs to be a tough cookie” and “can’t show her vulnerable side.” Her husband-to-be, Paul, also spoke about his story, telling viewers the he lost a friend to cancer and realized that “life is short” and he “wants to take opportunities in life” if he can. Next up was Peggy, a 32-year-old technology risk partner from Kent.
While fans sympathized with her story that her dad has been battling years-long struggle with cancer – they were a little confused about how it related to the show, and dubbed it “yet another sob story”. “Why would having a parent with a serious illness impact your dating life??? I just don’t do these effing sob stories!!!!” asked one fan.

“Why does every single person on MAFS have a sob story? Can you not get on this show without one?” another blasted. “is there always an X-Factor sob story on this show?” penned a third, while a fourth added: “Could the next series just have normal people not wanting their 5 minutes of fame & are actually wanting to find love? Not fake & plastic like this years cast And less sob stories.”
The show is set to be thrown into chaos after transgender bride Ella Morgan cheated on her husband Nathanial Valentino with another groom on the show. Ella, 29, shared a passionate kiss with a contestant on the E4 series that enters the experiment at a later date behind Nathanial’s back despite them committing to each other on their wedding day.
The revelation rocked the cast and Ella’s relationship with Nathanial, 36, who identifies as pansexual, meaning he doesn’t see gender and falls in love with the person, was left in tatters.
Married at First Sight UK airs Monday to Thursday on E4 at 9pm
