Rhod Gilbert shares cancer battle update and vows 'to get back on stage'

Rhod Gilbert has shared a new health update after being diagnosed with stage four cancer.

The Never Mind The Buzzcocks star announced his diagnosis publicly last July and was being treated at the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff.

The comedian has since told fans that “the show will go on” and thanks “each one” of them for their “continuing patience”.

He has since remained optimistic and has promised to “get back on stage” as soon as possible as he waits on “doctor’s advice” before making any big decision.

He told his loyal fanbase: “I thank each one of you for your continuing patience, rest assured, the show WILL go on.”

The welch comedian said he is also looking forward to the rescheduled tour dates for 2023, which have been pushed back until the summer.

Talking about his new no-filter approach, he said: “Years ago, if I’d gone for a walk down the beach with the dog, I’d have kept my head down and not engaged with anybody.

“Whereas now, if somebody stops me, I’ll end up in an hour’s chat about infertility, cancer, whatever. The most intimate conversations.”

He shed some positive life on his cancer battle as he told fans he’s feeling better by the day after undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

He added: “I’m feeling good and feel like I’m recovering day by day. Some days I’m well enough to do a bit of writing, and I’ve got a feeling when I’ve got through all this, there’ll be a show in it.”

Rhod – who hosts his show, Growing Pains, on Comedy Central – has also shared that he finds humour in difficult moments.

He explained: “We do have to find the humour when it doesn’t seem there’s much about. I’ve got a feeling when I get through all this there’ll be a show in it.”
