Robbie Williams set to help comedian top music charts after dedicating song to 'legend'

Tommy Cannon is aiming to rock on to the top of the charts with the help of superstar Robbie Williams

The 84-year-old comic will be recording a song later this month, thanks to the Take That star and his songwriter Richard Scott.

Tommy has not revealed the song’s title yet but said: “It’s a great song, it’s a sort of a swing thing.”

He hopes to release it in the near future.

Tommy’s collaboration with Robbie came after he praised the comic after a sell-out concert in Manchester.

Tommy said: “Towards the end of his act Robbie said, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, there’s a legend in the audience tonight. I’m going to dedicate this song to Tommy Cannon. Tom-my! Tom-my!’ And 20,000 people were going ‘Tom-my!’ I was in buckets.”

Robbie then said: “How much do you love that man?” which was met by more loud cheers, followed by Robbie adding: “We love you Tommy, this is Angels Tom, and it’s for you.”

Tommy took to social media after the concert to say: “I must say hearing Robbie Williams dedicate Angels to me in front of 20,000 was absolutely crazy.

“Thank you Rob. It means the world.”

Tommy also posted a picture on social media of himself and Robbie hugging, with the words “Wow, overwhelmed… met a legend last night.”

The tweet led to many people declaring Robbie Williams had met a legend too, with hundreds of comments.

“wow that’s so awesome of Robbie to do that well deserved you mr cannon sir are a legend,” said one viewer.

Another added: “I can see a @robbiewilliams @TheTommyCannon duet happening! Christmas Number 1 perhaps???”

Tommy and his best pal Bobby Ball became household names in the 1980s with their TV show Cannon and Ball.

And Bobby’s “Rock On Tommy” catchphrase caught on. Their 40-year partnership ended in 2020 when Bobby died of Covid.

In August 2022, Tommy unveiled a statue of Bobby in his adopted hometown of Lytham and said “It’s like he’s still here, if I do anything, I’m looking down thinking ‘where is he?'”

During an emotional speech he delivered during a show in Amsterdam at the end of January, The former Take That star opened up about his struggles with mental illness and thanked fans for “protecting” him.

“I had no purpose and I had no life. Being on top of the world, selling all of these stadiums and being in the newspapers… My head tells me I don’t deserve any of this, that I’m worthless,” he continued.

“the one thing that counteracted that, and also kept me safe, was the fact that you guys are here, and you guys like me, and you guys want me to be well.”
