Strictly Come Dancing star Rose Ayling-Ellis stepped in to defend Giovanni Pernice as he struggled to understand a popular British term.
In a short clip from his show, Adventures in Sicily, with fellow professional dancer and Strictly judge Anton Du Beke, Giovanni failed to understand what Anton was talking about as he tried to describe the term “budgie smuggler.”
“How do you say budgie smuggler in Italian?” Anton asked, to which Giovanni asked back: “What is the bunchie smuggler?”

Anton asked for translations for a budgie and then a smuggler, but Giovanni didn’t understand what they two had in common.
“Why would you call a bird a smuggler?” he queried. “What does it smuggle?”
“The bird isn’t the smuggler, the trunks are the smugglers and they’re smuggling the contraband in the undergarments” Anton said, understanding that his attempts at trying to explain the British saying to Giovanni weren’t working.
Sharing the clip with his one million followers, Giovanni added the caption: “Well.. you can’t blame me for that,” before urging his fans to tune into the new BBC show.
Meanwhile, Rose headed to the comments to reassure Giovanni that it wasn’t “easy.”
“Not an easy language,” she wrote with a series of laughing faces.
Other fans echoed Rose’s commenting, with one writing: “Another moment to remember how bonkers the British language is.”
“I laughed so hard, dream team. Series 2 please!x” a second begged.
“This is hilarious. Love it. I enjoyed last night’s episode very much and laughed so much especially when you beached the car! Perfect light viewing – humour, gorgeous views and fun light entertainment,” a third shared.
A fourth put: “I’ve watched it again it was so funny. I loved @giovannipernice and @mrantondubeke your friendship is joyous and banter is hilarious . Please do more than 3 episodes!”
