The artist and political activist formed the counterculture group back in 1088 with his friends John Waddington and Simon Underwood.

Just a few years later Gareth Sager and Bruce Smith joined the band to complete the star-studded line up fans know and love today.

The hitmakers quickly became known for rejecting conventional authority with their chart-topping tracks discussing a range of political themes.

But in 1980, the group decided to go their separate ways after they performed at a rally for the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in Trafalgar Square.

After the band split, Mark went on to release a slew of solo albums, but in 2010, the bandmates had a change of heart and reunited once more.

Following the heartbreaking news, Gareth shared a touching tribute to Mark online, describing him as the “most amazing mind of my generation.”
