William Shatner had fans fearing the worst had happened when he shared some “breaking news” to his Instagram account.
The account posted a snap of the star in a black shirt standing behind a podium with a microphone, with a red and white breaking news tag overlaid on the image.
Underneath that, white text explained just what was going on – but fans weren’t immediately reassured, as it began with: “Formerly renowned for his portrayal of Captain Kirk on the iconic show Star Trek…” before launching into its real explanation.

Thankfully, the post wasn’t announcing anything bad for the 92-year-old, who recently claimed he is “preparing for death”.
Instead, the post read: “Shatner has embarked on a novel entrepreneurial endeavour.
“He has recently affiliated himself with Space Crystal, a company specialising in crafting crystals imbued with an individual’s DNA, subsequently dispatching these unique creations to the lunar surface.”
Frightened fans barely took time to skim the post before heading to the comments section, with one writing: “Girl I saw your picture and breaking news and had a heart attack, don’t do me like that.”
“That scared me, at first glance I thought you passed away,” somebody else agreed.
A third fan posted: “Geez I thought it was a notice that you died when it said breaking news and how it started off! I’m so relieved I almost had a panic attack lol. Don’t die on me Kirk!! Not till I see you in person!”
It comes after Bill explained to fans that he has already planned his own funeral, with one insider claiming: “Bill insists he’s just being practical, but it’s tough to see him brainstorming the type of funeral he wants, who’ll be invited, and whether he can get his ashes scattered in the heavens and alongside his beloved horses.
“It’s become a mini-obsession. [His partner] Elizabeth especially is begging him to stop being so depressing — she’s counting on being with him for a lot of years yet.

“He feels great now and seems to have most of his faculties, but knows he’ll need someone to take care of him when he becomes feeble.”
William himself confessed that he “doesn’t have long to live” in an interview with Variety about his new documentary.
He explained: “Whether I keel over as I’m speaking to you or 10 years from now, my time is limited, so that’s very much a factor.
“I’ve got grandchildren. This documentary is a way of reaching out after I die.”
