Amanda Holden fuming at husband as she breaks down in tears over family exit

Amanda Holden was fuming with her husband when he failed to help out during a tough time.

She told her Heart FM listeners on Monday (September 16) that she “went mad” at him when they dropped off their daughter Lexi for her first day at university. The Britain’s Got Talent star brought her husband Chris Hughes and their younger daughter Hollie along to wave her off.

But it appears Chris wasn’t exactly doing everything he could to help out. And it’s safe to say Amanda called him out on it.

Her co-host Jason King (JK) told Amanda: “I knew it was a really big moment, a life moment, for you this weekend.” Amanda replied: “Yeah, it was me, and Chris, and Hollie, we took Lexi to university in a van with… you know those massive Ikea bags? We had about 11 of them and two full suitcases, and you go into the accommodation and it is like a luxury prison cell, isn’t it?”

The doting mum joked: “She at least has her own toilet – and believe me, that’s a good thing – and a shower and everything else, and I thought, I just don’t know how we’re going to fit it all in.”

She went on: “But we did, we brought everything up, everyone bundled in – except my husband, who sat on a chair listening to the Everton match on his phone and occasionally putting together odd things that I threw at him.”

Amanda had a pop at husband Chris as he was too busy tuning into the Everton match to help out. She admitted: “I actually don’t know what the score was in the end, because I went mad at him! I was like, ‘can you do something?'”.

She also opened up about the bittersweet feelings she felt, saying: “It’s one of those things where she was itching for us to go, but wanting us to stay, it’s like, ‘go… no, wait! ‘”.

Describing Lexi’s shyness, she said: “She knows loads of people at her University, not in her corridor, but everyone in her corridor seems super sweet. I went into the kitchen, Lexi was literally begging me not to go into the kitchen to put her food… because she’s so shy, and there were these people in there.”

“I was like, ‘what’s the situation here? ‘ And this young lad had only bought himself beers, and he said, ‘I’ve taken up a whole shelf with my beers, I’ll move them to there’, and I said, ‘alright darling but do keep them in the fridge’ – I turned into Joanna Lumley! “.

Amanda revealed everything of Lexi’s going into the fridge is labelled, adding: “I wanted to get Lexi a label gun but she said, ‘oh it’s too much’.”

Amanda said she felt “absolutely fine” when it was time to leave Lexi, but she grew emotional on the way back home. Amanda shared: “But anyway, we left her there and I was absolutely fine, and then we hit the A303, and I had a breakdown on the A303.”

“Chris was chatting away happily to me and he just saw tears coming out of the bottom of my sunglasses, and he was like, ‘Mandy? Mandy? ‘ And I went, ‘I’m having a breakdown on the A303!'”.

To cope with the absence of Lexi at home, Amanda revealed she has decided to foster a puppy from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, where she is an ambassador.
