Antiques Roadshow took a rather awkward turn according to host Fiona Bruce – after some guests “stormed off” following a valuation over their item.
A staple on screens every Sunday night, the series has been entertaining the nation since its debut in 1979. Over the years, fans have seen countless guests bring their items in the hope that may find out more about their valuables – or even better, receive a surprising valuation.
It’s fair to say there have been plenty of jaw-dropping moments too – from experts nearly dropping vases to accidentally “drinking” urine. And with Fiona Bruce hosting the show since 2008 – the telly favourite has no doubt seen some amazing scenes.

But apparently, there was one time when a couple ended up “storming off” from the show after hearing what their item was worth. And they even “dumped it” straight after.
Recently, Fiona appeared on ITV’s gameshow Celebrity Catchphrase – fronted by Stephen Mulhern. For the special, Fiona appeared alongside fellow famous faces Josie Gibson and Scott Mills.
And as expected, host Stephen was quick to quiz Fiona about hosting Antiques Roadshow. He said: “We know you as a presenter, as very serious news reader. We know you from Antiques Roadshow as well, of course.
“Have you ever seen anybody really cheesed off when they bring their item in and they get told it’s worth absolutely nothing?” Stephen added: “Because I love that bit!”
Laughing, Fiona replied: “Everyone tells me they love that bit. And yes, I mean, many times!”
Recalling the rather awkward moment, she explained: “Some people came along once, a couple and they had an enormous painting. They lugged it along and it took them ages.
“Eventually the specialist saw it and said £30 maybe, and they were so cross!” She then added: “They dumped it against a hedge and stormed off!”
It comes as the BBC shared an update in February on the future of Antiques Roadshow. The broadcaster announced that filming for the popular programme will kick off in a matter of months.
It will return for its 47th series as viewers find out more about valuable treasures people have discovered. The team will kickstart their travels from Firstsite Art Gallery in Colchester, Essex all the way to Thirlestane Castle tucked away in Lauder in the Scottish Borders. Further stops include Beaumaris Castle on the island of Anglesey, the Botanic Gardens within Belfast, and Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery in Ealing, London.
