BBC Breakfast in presenter shake-up as Sally Nugent hosts without Jon Kay

BBC Breakfast star Jon Kay was missing from the show.

The presenter, 54, usually commands the red sofa alongside Sally Nugent from Monday to Wednesday, but wasn’t around during the latest instalment of the programme (March 4). Sally, 52, was joined by fan-favourite presenter Ben Thompson.

Ben announced he would be fronting the show on Sunday evening (March 3). On X, formerly Twitter, a fan shared a photo of Ben and Rachel Burden from Sunday’s programme.

Viewers enjoy Ben’s presence on the flagship programme as one responded: “Always enjoy your mornings.” A second agreed: “See you in the morning bright and breezy.”

Another gushed: “Handsome Ben.” Last month, Jon was absent from BBC Breakfast after announcing he was a judging the BBC 500 Words competition.

He was joined by Sir Lenny Henry, Frank Cottrell-Boyce, Francesca Simon, Charlie Higson, and Malorie Blackman in judging the UK’s most successful children’s writing competition. The grand final took place last week on Wednesday (February 28) where 50 young literary talents were invited to a reception hosted by Her Majesty The Queen.

The six winners will be revealed in a special episode of The One Show, airing on Thursday 7 March on BBC One. After being invited to judge, Jon said it was “an absolute honour” as he shared more details on social media.
