BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty caught ‘glaring’ at co-host during on-air clash

Naga Munchetty was caught giving a dirty look on camera.

The broadcaster is usually seen presenting BBC Breakfast with Charlie Stayt from Thursday to Saturday. But things were a little different on Thursday (July 4) as she was reporting live from a General Election hustings.

Naga was in Blyth, while fellow BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent was reporting from a hustings in Sunderland. It’s safe to say it got a little competitive between the pair as the constituencies they were reporting from were racing to be the first constituency to declare.

Blyth had just missed out on being the first to reveal their count in 2019. Sally thanked the sixth-formers who were “running these boxes in” to to declare first. She said a lady called Jackie had “brought back her A team who are counting at the back of this room right now.”

Sally said: “They are confident, and Jackie told me they are going to win.” Back in the studio, BBC host Clive Myrie told Sally: “Well, it could all be down to Jackie…”

Naga got into the competitive spirit and jokingly looked annoyed during the broadcast, suggesting she’d be livid if Sally’s constituency beat her to the count. It didn’t go amiss.

Spotting Naga’s glare, Clive quipped: “Thank you Sally and to you Naga, as well… Naga’s looking daggers there. It’s great to see you both, thank you.”

Naga, who was obviously joking, started grinning before Clive moved on with the broadcast. Sadly for Naga, it was Houghton and Sunderland South – Sally’s constituency – who won.

Fans on X commented on the rivalry. One wrote: “Sally Nugent, in Sunderland, beats Naga Munchetty in Blyth for the first result, but, no hard feelings at the next BBC team building exercise.”

Another said: “Naga’s looking daggers has to be said carefully #bbcelection #GeneralElection2024.” A third complimented Naga’s impressive work ethic, adding: “Naga Munchetty’s earning her corn today, she was on #BBCBreakfast this morning…”

It was Labour’s Keir Starmer who was revealed as Britain’s next Prime Minister following a historic landslide victory over Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives. Labour took a whopping 412 seats compared to Rishi’s Tories, who got just 121.
